Chemical / Package Monitoring Indicators
DESCRIPTION
After opening a sterile package and checking for the indicator colour change, the self-adhesive indicator may be adhered to documentation in CSSD or theatre.
Package monitoring indicators respond to all critical parameters in a sterilisation process. The gke indicators fulfill the requirements according to EN ISO 11140-1.
Application
Types 5 and 6 chemical / package monitoring indicators are used inside each pack to be sterilised. If the colour of the indicator has completely changed, the penetration of steam inside the packs has been achieved.
Package indicators can be used for routine monitoring if only porous and solid instruments are to be sterilised.
Where hollow, MIS instruments are to be sterilised a Process Challenge Device is recommended to simulate the internal lumens of the instruments. This is not possible with package monitoring indicators alone.
The gke Type 5 and 6 indicators allow reliable information about the quality of sterilisation at the point of placement.
